WATCH: The seed and plant swap event in Oakfield Gardens to celebrate the new community planter

Volunteers held an event in Oakfield Gardens today for residents to swap seeds and plants to encourage them into gardening and growing food at home.

Llantarnam Residents Conservation Society (Llarcs) was behind the two-hour event that attracted around 100 people. The event was held to mark the building of a new community planter where anybody can take a cutting to use in their home cooking.

The wood for the planter was donated by Cwmbran company, Davies Timber. The volunteers set up an arts and craft stall for children and offered drinks and cakes from Cookes Bakery for a donation.

People were encouraged to bring small garden tools to give away to fellow gardeners or swap for another tool.
