Two national companies want to open up ‘pods’ in the car park of a Cwmbran supermarket.

WeBuyAnyCar and Autoglass Repair feature on a joint planning application to Torfaen Council.

They want to be allowed to install ‘pod structures’ in the car park of the Morrisons store on Grange Road in Cwmbran.

The application has been made by WM Morrisons Ltd through its agent, Peacock + Smith Ltd.

WeBuyAnyCar is a used car company that buys vehicles from customers as an alternative to selling privately. Autoglass Repair offer a service where they repair or replace any type of glass on any make, model or age of vehicle.

Whittam Cox Architects inclued a design and access statement in the application:

The choice of location for the Autoglass and WeBuyAnyCar.com pods is not only complimentary to the existing use of the site but also purposefully promotes economic activity within a key retail location. Access to the pods is via the existing Morrisons car park access and through the existing retail car park. Careful consideration has been placed in the positioning of the pods to ensure that there is no disruption to vehicular and pedestrian circulation and that the site will continue to operate as existing.

The pods are positioned on existing parking bays which will reduce the total parking numbers by 14 standard car parking bays. Existing white lines will be burnt off and the new area will be de-marked to provide safe access into the new pods...The scheme seeks to revitalise the existing Morrisons car park by offering more choice to customers and generating new employment opportunities through the provision of an Autoglass and WeBuyAnyCar.com pods.

Cars will only be bought by WeBuyAnyCars on the site and taken away to be sold or auctioned.

Council planners will make a decision at a later date.
