A 16-year-old wheelchair rugby player from Cwmbran helped a former Wales international try out the tough sport. Gareth Thomas took part in a training session with the Ospreys Wheelchair Rugby team. Cwmbran High School pupil Kyran Bishop plays for the team and battled with ‘Alfie’ during a training session at Llantrisant Leisure Centre.
Footage of the session will be shown on BBC One Wales at 7pm on Friday 23 February on The Big Six Nations Kick Off with Gabby and Gareth. If you miss it you can catch up on the BBC iPlayer.
Kyran has been successful in obtaining support through the Torfaen Talent Development Scheme which gives him free access to leisure facilities for a year at Pontypool Active Living Centre and Cwmbran Stadium which is funded by Torfaen Leisure Trust.
Kyran said: “The fact I can train any day of the week makes me fitter and faster and closer to making my dreams a reality.“
