A Cwmbran man who always knew he “couldn’t be behind a desk all day” has launched his own business as a personal trainer to help people “get moving” and feel part of a community.

Callum Loder told Cwmbran Life he has “always liked being active” and wanted to support people not just to get fit, but to get out of the house and build confidence.

“If I mix these things then I can make a difference,” he said.

Callum also runs mobility classes and group fitness classes alongside his personal training sessions. He’s already started to build what he calls a “nice little community” at the gym space he uses at Amos Martial Arts on Mamhilad Park Estate.

“It’s a nice location, straight off the dual carriageway,” he said.

‘Moving around’

The former Croesyceiliog School pupil and Coleg Gwent student began martial arts at the age of four and first went to the gym at 16. “I realised I liked moving around – that’s how I got into the PT side of things. I realised I could make a career out of it. It’s worked out quite nicely, helping people get moving.”

Callum previously worked as a PT at JD Gym and also works for RISE, an organisation in south Wales that helps people with limited mobility learn new skills and get active through its adapted sports programme.
