Two books written by a teenage author from Cwmbran have been added to the library at Coleg Gwent’s campus in the town.
Ieuan Jones, 17, has just published the sequel to his 2024 debut novel The Fallen: The Dead Rises.
He featured in a Cwmbran Life story two years ago talking about his “massive imagination” and love of writing.
The series began with the story of three friends who “navigate a nightmarish reality” after a “deadly zombie virus” attacks the world.
His latest book, The Fallen: Volkov’s Legion, brought new challenges and a fresh writing process.
“When writing my first book I did have the sequel in mind,” said Ieuan. “I was mostly excited for this one. It’s where things truly start to take off for The Last Hope, the main group. I truly loved making this sequel.”
He said he used new techniques such as “show, don’t tell” and researched real locations to make scenes feel authentic.
“At times it was challenging to find places that fit the story – this is a zombie apocalypse versus a Google Maps street photo that looks really happy and cheerful.”
Ieuan’s friend Ellen helped proofread the 300‑page book, leaving notes and “funny side comments” on characters she loved and hated. He also faced a year of writer’s block before finishing the sequel – until his girlfriend gave him a motivational speech that helped him push through.
“There are more books planned for this series — a total of five. It sounds insane, I know, but the story I’m telling can’t be rushed.”
Ieuan is studying Media Studies at The Torfaen Learning Zone in Cwmbran, where the college library has added both his books to its shelves.
“My tutors are very supportive, and it’s exciting to talk about it with new people.”
