Yep. You read that right- Cwmbran is getting its own sandy beach that will be built in Gwent Square. Listen to this Audioboo of Michael Bell, events coordinator at Cwmbran Shopping, talking about plans to bring buckets, spades and deckchairs to the town.
Over 150 tonnes of white sand will transform the square into a summer haven, giving sun-seekers a place to unwind and play from 12 July to 2 September.
The 20m x 20m free attraction will allow visitors to relax on deckchairs, feast on ice cream and take part in beach yoga.
For families, there will be games and live music. A community fashion show is planned and local retailers will have special offers and product samples for shoppers.
Paul Rich, centre manager at Cwmbran Shopping said: “The beaches developed by Beach Events have been used at the Olympics, in addition to popular festivals such as the Isle of Wight, and we’re thrilled to be able to bring it to Cwmbran.
“To have 150 tonnes of sand in the centre of Cwmbran will be fantastic for the local community. The beach will allow people to enjoy a white sandy beach, without having to travel far afield. It’s great to be able to tell shoppers they can pack their sunhat, flip flops and sun cream when they pop down to Cwmbran Shopping this summer.”
