A WELSH rugby legend and a craftsman are among those from Torfaen recognised in the New Year’s Honours.

Former Wales wing Gerald Davies, who recently served as the president of the Welsh Rugby Union, has received a knighthood for services to rugby union, and to voluntary and charitable service in Wales.

The former winger, who starred for the dominant Wales sides in the 1960s and 70s, and who also represented the British and Irish Lions, played for Cardiff in his club career but lives at Coed-y-paen, close to the Llandegfedd Reservoir near Pontypool.

Also recognised is Cwmbran craftsman Peter Bradwick who picks up an MBE.

The chairman of the town’s Crow Valley Woodturners group is recognised for services to the craft of wood turning.

Karen Turner, from Pontypool the senior operational support manager at at hM Prison and Probation Service Wales is also recognised, with an OBE, for public service.
