Children and their families have enjoyed a week of free fun at Cwmbran Integrated Children’s Centre to celebrate 20 years of the venue and the Flying Start service.
The site on Ton Road next to Nant Celyn Primary School has held fun days every day last (3-7 August 2026) week, including a Teddy Bears’ Picnic and National Play Day.
Many services are run from the centre to support local families, including programmes for dads. In Torfaen, the Flying Start programme has also provided funding for enhanced health visitor and parenting support, and help with speech, language and communication development.
The daily activities this week have linked to the theme of helping children become school‑ready, with a focus on play, confidence and early learning.
While their children enjoyed the fun activities, visitors were able to chat with Torfaen Family Information Service, Health Visiting Services ABUHB, Torfaen Healthy and Sustainable Pre-Schools and Mudiad Meithrin.
‘Across generations’
Emma Treadgold, Flying Start manager, said: “One of the greatest privileges of working with Flying Start is seeing families grow over the years. We meet them as babies, watch them progress into school and then see them again as adults with their own children, which highlights the difference Flying Start has made across generations.”
