Six days after wowing the judges on Britain’s Got Talent and notching up over 675,000 views on You Tube Robbie Kennedy gets disturbed in the middle of rehearsing at home by a call from Cwmbran Life.
Whoops. I don’t want to take his attention away from spending time getting his performance spot-on so I keep the chat to under ten minutes.
He is genuine down-to-earth guy who is in shock after making such an impression on the show. I ask him about growing up in Cwmbran.
“It was very good. Everyone around here knows each other.”
That is lucky as he jokes about how when he is rehearsing the volume can be quite loud.
“I’ve been playing my guitar on full amp and have had no complaints. You can hear it in the street.”
The last week has involved staying indoors, doing lots of interviews and rehearsing.
“I was away for a day for an interview on Daybreak (and Lorraine). I haven’t had much time to go out of the house. I was practicing now as you rang.”
He saw his appearance on the show at home in Oakfield.
“I watched it in the house with my girlfriend, brother and some mates and then we went to the Oakfield pub for a few beers.”
He did the Cardiff audition in January so has spent three months avoiding saying anything on social media. Now that the cat is out of the bag he has picked up thousands of new fans on his Twitter and Facebook page. So what is next for Robbie?
“I have no idea how it works from here. It is so secret. I won’t know until they say if I’m through.”
Let’s keep our fingers crossed for him as we wait to find out who goes through to the semi-final stage.
Robbie sums up what we are all thinking. He said: “It can only get better from here.”
So if you enjoyed his performance of Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls last week take a stroll around Oakfield and you may hear him getting ready for his next appearance.
